this morning...

The spanish fork half marathon and 5k...

And no, I wasn't running. My husband was.
It was fun to be out there. It made me remember that I committed to do a race just like this in about five weeks. I need to get going. This week has been a hard one. I swam on Monday and then did nothing for the rest of the week. I am really getting bummed about the lack of movement in my weight. Oh well. I guess I just have to keep going - not worrying about the number on the scale. I definitely won't get thin and fit doing nothing...

Good luck with your 5k, you are way more motivated than I could ever be. I hate running.

I have been so pumped up about training for my 5K. But after mapping out my route and realizing I was running slower than a snail*, I decided I'm just not ready for the September 13th race I was planning. The annoying thing is that my husband, with no training whatsoever, could probably get up and run it EASILY. So unfair!

I was sick this week, so I also only ran Monday. We tried again Friday, but both kids crashed 2 minutes into our run, so we went straight back home.

Also, I was driving around BYU campus yesterday and I saw tons of runners. FAST runners. "What on earth do I think I am doing?" I thought. I have no business doing this -- I am nothing compared to them.

So congratulations to M and I'm right there with you needing to get remotivated!

*15 minute miles! I could WALK faster!

Katie - don't give up! Yes, those runners are crazy fast - I definitely don't like seeing them either BUT... we aren't running to beat college kids. We aren't running to win races. We aren't running to be the fastest ladies in town! We are running to tell those voices in our heads that say, "Compared to them, you're nothing." to shove it. To those voices that tell us we're losers - we give em the finger when we keep on running. To the family members, old friends, new friends or anyone who says, "You're a runner!!? You don't seem like a runner!" or "You were never athletic in high school...." or "How often do you run?" Every step I take I am defeating another rude comment - real or imagined. DON'T GIVE UP! Race that race on the 13th. And then come and race again with me on the 29th next month! And who cares if you could walk that fast - when you run every time your feet hit the pavement they are pounding out self doubt and fear. Keep.on.pounding.

Megan, you are awesome! Of course you are 100% right. I'm still bailing on next Saturday because so far I've only run 2 miles. I know they say that you don't need to have run the full mileage before a race because you'll get some extra adrenaline or whatever, but 2 to 3 miles is a 50% increase! I am going to do the Cougar Run on October 11th, and my kids will be racing too! There is a 200 m race for ages 1-4, a 400 m race for ages 5-8, and a half mile (?) for ages 9-11 or something. I thought about entering our baby in the 200 m race, but I think it would take him an hour to finish -- he'd have to stop to examine every rock, leaf, speck of dirt, etc. :-D

The Halloween race sounds awesome too -- I might do both! I would look sweet racing as a Jedi Knight. The cape might slow me down a bit though.
